Plug-in hybrid and loaded sport edition join revised C-Class range
THE addition of a powerful and efficient new plug-in hybrid variant of the popular Mercedes-Benz C-Class headlines revisions to the line-up of one of Australia’s favourite premium medium-sized vehicles.
Powered by the third generation of Mercedes-Benz hybrid technology, the C 300 e Sedan replaces the C 350 e Sedan as the petrol electric hybrid model in the C-Class range.
It utilises a strong electric motor, which generates up to 90kW of power and 440Nm of torque. This in isolation can propel the vehicle on fully electric driving for up to 52km (almost double that of its predecessor).
But the e-motor also forms an economical yet power packed combination with the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine which generates 155kW and 350Nm on its own. Combined, the hybrid drive train develops maximum system of 235kW and 700Nm.
That power is sent to the rear wheels via a hybrid-specific version of the 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission, developed for use with EQ Power enhanced vehicles. It’s priced at $79,200 plus on-roads.
A C 200 Sport Edition is also joins the range, loaded with a curated selection of additional features normally associated with higher-specification models, but is being offered for a limited time.
The C 200 Sport Edition includes DISTRONIC automated cruise control, a head up display, a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats with memory function, adaptive high-beam assist, on the sedan variant, and rear privacy glass.
It also scores 19-inch AMG alloy wheels and the sporty AMG Line exterior package, and is priced at specific drive away prices; $69,900 for the sedan, $74,623 for the estate, and $74,900 for the coupe.
Across the C-Class range, all models now include live traffic information as a standard inclusion, adding an extra responsive element to satellite navigation that can alert the driver in real time to traffic congestion or hazards on a selected route.
The C 300 e and C 200 Sport Edition variants can be ordered now, with deliveries expected later in the year.
